MY PHILOSOPHY

  • Rigorous preparation: Success in the courtroom and all other parts of the representation is directly related to the quality and thoroughness of the attorney’s preparation. Effective advocacy requires inspired, creative and resourceful preparation.
  • Information is power: It is critical for the trial lawyer to have a complete understanding of all facts relevant to the case. If the lawyer has the most thorough information, they have the power to control how the evidence is understood and interpreted by the judge or jury at trial.
  • Understanding the landscape: Increasingly, cases involves fields of specialized knowledge, with important issues being decided by forensic and scientific expertise. The trial lawyer must have a complete mastery of such issues, drawing upon its own experts and other resources in order to refute the opponent’s theories, advance more compelling interpretations of the evidence, and thereby resolve the issues in favor of the client.
  • Presenting a coherent position: Judges and juries seek a plausible, compelling account of the factual circumstances of a case, one that accords with their innate understanding of human affairs. The factual aspects of a trial presentation should be explained with clarity, coherence and consistency.
  • Winning isn’t everything … It’s the only thing.
